Meet Taras Lukachuk, KMA graduade and one of the founders of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation

18.12.2023

KMA graduates become excellent specialists in their respective fields, and change-makers in Ukraine and the whole world. KMA is a community that sticks together, and we are delighted that graduates return to their alma mater to contribute to its development even after reaching high achievements.

Taras Lukachuk graduated from the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in 1997, the Department of Social Sciences. He began working at the international company «Kraft Foods» in 1996 when he was still a student. From 2011 to 2015, he served as Vice President and General Director of «Mondelez International» (formerly «Kraft Foods») in Ukraine, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Later, he became the head of the regional office of one of the world's largest corporations, «Jacobs Douwe Egberts». Taras is actively involved in the work of the university's development institutions: he is a member of the KMA Supervisory Board, the KMA Alumni Association's Supervisory Board, and chairs the Supervisory Board of the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of Ukraine.

Taras Lukachuk entered the KMA in 1993, one of the first years after the Academy’s revival. He studied at the Department of Social Sciences. He decided to enter KMA because at those times other universities were full of cases of corruption, privileges and Soviet-era values, while KMA was standing out. He considers these initial years of his student life as the time of gaining valuable knowledge and skills.

Taras Lukachuk also finds studying at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy one of the three most significant transformations in his life; a transformation for which he is grateful. Therefore since the 2010s, he has actively supported KMA, particularly the university’s faculty, believing that «if students receive worse education from their faculty, their outcomes will also be worse». In 2013, Taras Lukachuk established the «Best Mentor-Faculty Member» award for faculty members at the KMA Department of Economics. In 2016 he established the same awards for the KMA Department of Natural Sciences and the KMA Department of English Language. His intention was not only to aid the faculty but to support the institution overall, enabling the Academy to analyze and develop its strengths within the community.

«I believe that the resources invested in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy will not disappear but only multiply more because this university is efficient. How do I estimate this? I see a large number of successful professionals who are KMA graduates. Overall, my charitable endeavour is not about «earning medals» or watching where the money goes; it's about contributing through assistance, experience, and advice to create a better institution together», notes Taras Lukachuk.

In 2023, Taras Lukachuk contributed 1,000,000 ₴  to establish the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation of Ukraine. This brought new opportunities, enabled the Academy to raise more scholarships and fellowships, and supported other development projects within the university.

We are grateful to Taras Lukachuk for his systematic support of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy community. We also invite you to join us in enhancing the quality of education at KMA and in Ukraine. We invite you to support the university by establishing named scholarships and fellowships or in any other way convenient for you.
