Third Call for Applications for the Yevhen Kvaskov Student Project Grant Announced!

On August 29, the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation announces the third call for applications for the Yevhen Kvaskov Student Project Grant.

Yevhen Kvaskov was a graduate of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (BA in Economics, 2000; MA in Information and Control Systems and Technologies, 2003), a marketing expert with experience at major banks, a civic activist, and an educator. He was also an active member of the Kyiv-Mohyla community.

For more than 15 years, Yevhen devoted himself to the national and civic education of young people and to preserving Ukraine’s historical memory. For many years, he organized the Human Chain of Unity on Kyiv’s Paton Bridge, the Cossack Quest for Kyiv school students, and the Cossack Training program in juvenile correctional facilities. He was a co-founder and leader of the Spas Brotherhood of Cossack Martial Tradition at NaUKMA and the Civic Union “Center for National and Patriotic Education.”

Following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Yevhen joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took part in the defense of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast and fought in heavy battles in Donetsk Oblast as a mortar operator. He was killed in action while carrying out a combat mission near Bakhmut in April 2023. He was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class.

To continue Yevhen’s work, his family established a grant in his name to support student initiatives that contribute to the development of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and its community, preserve historical memory, and strengthen the cohesion of Ukrainian society.

Among the winners of the previous grant competitions were the Moot Court Lab law school, the YouTube project “Konstruktyv”, and the Kyiv-Mohyla festival “StudFest: Shadows of Forgotten Funk.”

GRANT CONDITIONS

• The total grant budget is UAH 130,000.
• The number of winning teams and the distribution of funding among them will be determined by the selection committee.

WHO CAN APPLY?

• Teams of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy students enrolled in bachelor’s or master’s programs.
• Each team must include at least two students and may not consist exclusively of first-year students.

WHAT PROJECTS CAN BE SUBMITTED?

• seminars and workshops;
• events, festivals, and other educational and/or cultural and artistic activities;
• public initiatives;
• advocacy campaigns.

This list is not exhaustive. You may submit any idea that meets the stated criteria.

The project must be scheduled for implementation during the 2026–2027 academic year.

• Attach the CV of each project team member, including their average academic grade for the previous academic year.

The requirement to provide an average academic grade does not apply to first-year students.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Projects should contribute to the development of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and its community in at least one of the following areas:

• promote national and civic awareness;
• contribute to the cohesion of Ukrainian society;
• support the preservation of historical memory;
• academic performance of the project team members;
• civic engagement of the project team members;
• consistency and track record of the initiative in previous years, where applicable;
• alignment between the project’s objectives, implementation plan, and budget.
