Two projects won the First Grant Competition of the Memorial Scholarship Fund for Fallen Mohyliantsi

The first laureates of the Student Initiatives Grant Competition by the Memorial Scholarship Fund for Mohyliantsi fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian war have been announced. The winning projects were submitted by two teams: “Academy's Memory is Eternal” by Iryna Stratiienko and the cultural and art festival “Mohylianskyi Vyvykh” by KMA Help.

Iryna Stratiienko believes that the memory of the fallen should not exist only in official archives, but must prevail in conversations, traditions, books, art — in the elements of student culture that shape the academic community. The goal of the initiative “Academy's Memory is Eternal” is to preserve the memory of Mohyliantsi who died fighting for Ukraine. The project team has planned a series of lectures, art exhibitions, educational and social events that will reveal the personal stories of the fallen soldiers. Additionally, the Book of Memory will be updated, and collections of essays about the fallen Mohyliantsi will be compiled.

The charitable festival “Mohylianskyi Vyvykh” is an attempt to reinterpret the experience of the 90s legendary Lviv festival of the same name, known for its innovative approach to culture and satire. “Our reimagined concept is to reflect the experience of the Russian-Ukrainian war through bold and unconventional ideas,” explains project leader Yelyzaveta Stolberg.

The Grant of the Memorial Scholarship Fund for Mohyliantsi fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian war is aimed at supporting student initiatives that contribute to preserving historical memory, strengthening the unity of Ukrainian society, advancing Ukraine’s development, and building the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and its community.

A total of 11 teams participated in the competition. The selection committee, consisting of student representatives, university administration, alumni, and families of fallen Mohyliantsi, evaluated the projects based on their alignment with the Fund’s goals, feasibility, and the experience of the teams.

We believe these projects will become important steps in preserving and shaping the Academy’s culture of remembrance.

The Memorial Fund for Mohyliantsi Fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian War was established in 2024 by the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Foundation. The purpose of the Fund is to support students and faculty who strengthen our community and its core values, and who continue the mission of the fallen Mohyliantsi.
