The Memorial Scholarship in honour of Hlib Ivanov was awarded ti its recipient
10.10.2024
On October 5, for the first time, the KMA Department of Social Sciences and the Kyiv-Mohyla Foundation in Ukraine awarded the Memorial Scholarship in honour of Hlib Ivanov. The ceremony took place at the KMA Museum, a special and spiritual place for our community. The scholarship recipient is Veronika Vashchilina, a second-year student in the Political Science program.
Hlib Ivanov was a student in the Political Science program as well and had to receive his diploma in the summer of 2023. However, after the beginning of the russian full-scale invasion, he enlisted in the territorial defence forces – the 205th Battalion of the 241st Brigade. Despite this, he continued attending seminars and pursued his studies with passion. In January 13, 2023, Hlib lost his life in action on the outskirts of the Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.
Kateryna and Yaroslav, Hlib's parents, decided to donate the funds raised at their son's memorial evening to a scholarship fund. This scholarship will annually support students of the KMA Political Science program, who have high academic standing and are actively involved in university activities.
This scholarship has become a symbol of honouring Hlib’s memory, his thirst for knowledge, and his dedication to Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and its values.
"Hlib was a part of the wonderful KMA community that he loved dearly. Now it has become part of our lives too." (From a Facebook post by Hlib's father, Yaroslav Ivanov).
The decision about the scholarship recipient was made by a committee, which this year included Hlib's parents, friends, and teachers.
The scholarship ceremony was warm and heartfelt. Hlib's parents and friends shared memories of him and thanked the KMA community for realizing this initiative.
