In June 2026, the Mohyla community lost Ruslan Kostiantynovych Chornei — Head of the Department of Mathematics at NaUKMA, a renowned scholar, talented teacher, and mentor who devoted many years of his life to the university. To continue his work and support the students to whom he dedicated his efforts, we are establishing an endowment for the Ruslan Chornei Memorial Scholarship.
The fund is being created to support students of the bachelor’s program “Big Data Analytics” — a new academic program at NaUKMA, the development of which Ruslan Kostiantynovych actively worked on until his final days. This program combines fundamental mathematical training, modern methods of data analysis, and practical tools for working with complex information systems — areas whose development was especially important to him.
The endowment is intended to create a permanent source of support for students and ensure the lasting presence of Ruslan Chornei’s name in the life of the university.
About Ruslan Chornei
Ruslan Kostiantynovych Chornei was a person who shaped NaUKMA’s school of mathematics and influenced the development of many generations of students.
Colleagues valued him for his professionalism, academic integrity, and strategic vision for the development of mathematical education. Students will remember him as a teacher who demanded a deep understanding of the subject, encouraged curiosity, and knew how to inspire the search for one’s own solutions.
His work extended far beyond the classroom. He was one of those who consistently developed mathematical education at NaUKMA, supported new educational initiatives, and worked to create opportunities for future generations of students.
One such opportunity is the bachelor’s program “Big Data Analytics,” which will launch at NaUKMA in 2026.
Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of the endowment is to form a designated capital fund of UAH 1,000,000, the investment income from which will provide the annual Ruslan Chornei Memorial Scholarship.
The scholarship will be awarded to students of the “Big Data Analytics” program who demonstrate:

accomplishments in mathematical disciplines and data analysis;

active participation in the development of the academic community.
In this way, every donation will have an impact for many years to come, supporting new generations of students.
